To start with, HS6  Hodgdon Smokeless powder is an extruded powder in Hodgdon’s Extreme series and it’s safe to say more big game animals have been taken by hand loaders with this powder than any other.

Specification:

Hodgdon HS-6 is a fine, spherical, double-base propellant that has wide application in handguns and shotshells. The HS-6 is an excellent cartridge for a pistol. It has a higher ballistic coefficient than 9mm, it fires faster than 40S&W, and In shotshell HS-6, the light field loads in 10 ga., 12 ga., and 20 ga. are as good as it gets. The HS-6 is truly a remarkable spherical propellant. It’s identical to Winchester’s discontinued 540.

In terms of ballistic performance, this Extreme Extruded powder is the exact copy of HS6 Hodgdon Smokeless powder. Physically, the SC refers to a shorter grain size, therefore, the designation SC or short cut.

Shorter, more compact kernels are designed to help powders flow more smoothly through powder measures. With the smoother flow characteristics, the more uniform charge weights and denser grain orientations lead to superior flash-through.

Important Information:

Don’t exceed the loads in the reloaders guide. Never mix two powders of the same type or brand. Substitute any smokeless powder for black powder.
